What A Difference A Week Makes

http://s3.freefoto.com/images/05/08/05_08_5_prev.jpg

When I was incarcerated in 2003 I wrote this after meditating on Christ's triumphant entry into Jerusalem and His Crucifixion just a few short days later.  How does a person go from crying out "Hosanna Son of David!" to "Crucify Him!",  As I was meditating it became clear the spiritual battle raging upon Jerusalem... since we do not battle flesh and blood.  Here is the short story as it unfolded in my jail cell.  I hope it makes you think of the last week's journey of the Messiah! If you like it please share it!

What a Difference a Week Makes
George Gipson - 2003

What a change in a week….a week ago crowds chanting…Hosanna!  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!  Blessed is the King of Israel!

The rumors have spread….He is the messiah!  Now all week in his teachings he has even declared who he is…..

In the Spiritual Realm the hoards of demons descend upon Jerusalem expecting the final battle with the King of Kings….

….Expecting legions of Angels to rally behind the King…..Like the Pharisee’s they have missed the part of coming as a lamb to slaughter because it seemed like such foolishness….

….After all we knew him in all of his glory and power…..

As the demons descend upon Jerusalem the chants change from “Hosanna!” to “Crucify Him!”….

Hope rises in dark hearts….where are the Lords Angels…..?  We are too many…we can win this battle…..stir the crowds…..if they kill him we can win!

….look…they are crucifying the Messiah….we have won!!!!!!!

He cries out… ""Eloi, Eloi," "lama" "sabachthani?""  …..what was that he calls for Elijah…..?

No battle…why are no Angels rising to the battle????  He breaths his last…. the earth shakes in sorrow ….still no battle…..

Darkness……Demons begins to rejoice…we have won!

What…. They hear in the crowd someone crying out words from an old prophet…..grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground.
He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him….He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering……..
Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows….
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. …
We all, like sheep, have gone astray…. and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all….
He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth…..
After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light [of life] and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities….

What have we done????….quick have them guard the tomb!..............

Too late …………….it’s EMPTY!!

Our LORD has conquered the grave and has arisen with all power, glory and might!!!

The war has been won, yet the battle rages on!!  Behold he holds the keys and we have been set free!!!!!

Death no longer holds any sting but instead sweet release into the arms of the lover of our souls!

Fight on… Oh Christian fight on… for even if slain in this battle it holds no sting!!!!
